The family-run, independent company has overcome strong competition to grow market share for its premium-quality building products, increasing manufacture demand, which led to a 17,000 sq ft factory extension in 2021 and further investment in plant, process, and people to facilitate the company’s record turnover in 2022.

Now plans are afoot to double in size again with a three million pound investment in a new 30,000 sq ft expansion, featuring state-of-the-art solar panels, low energy lighting, and electric charge points, with an EPC rating of A, all aimed to decarbonise its operations.

The new high-spec manufacturing centre will enable the company to significantly upgrade its in-house R&D, engineering, and manufacturing capacity, and house a growing workforce as it moves into new sectors and launches several market-leading products in 2025 and beyond.

Tees Valley Mayor, Ben Houchen, visited the site recently to discover more and extend his support to the esteemed business, partaking in a ribbon-cutting ceremony with company directors to mark the installation of an additional Trumpf 5000 punch press. He commented, “Metador are a prime example of a local business going from strength-to-strength and it’s not hard to see why they’ve doubled in size in recent years, producing top-quality bespoke doors to protect against crime, fire, and property damage.

Not content with the incredible growth they’ve achieved so far, I’m delighted to see them continuing to invest in new machinery and their facilities to win more work, grow bigger and better, and create even more opportunity in our region.”

With strategic plans to reach a £50 million turnover within five years, a glowing reputation for quality and complex built-to-suit doorsets in the marketplace, and increasing demand for its growing product range, Metador is undeniably one of Teesside’s steel-based success stories and is increasingly recognised on a national basis.

Metador’s door range includes independently assessed and certified products, by leading industry bodies including LPCB, BSI, and Secured By Design. High-performing, long-lasting, and built from eco-friendly recyclable steel, they provide high-quality solutions to suit today’s building needs.

Simon Evershed, Managing Director and Company Founder commented; “Many traditional steel doorsets are not designed to withstand the environmental and societal impact they are subjected to. We established Metador to change that and have driven company success based on the quality, design innovation, engineering, and manufacturing that goes into producing a Metador door. It has taken a lot of work, ingenuity, and a team effort to get this far and we have developed considerable experience and expertise in the sector. This, along with our new expansion plans will mean we are well-placed for significant growth.”

The company, based at John Boyle Road, Middlesbrough, marks its 20-year milestone in 2024 and is one of many currently expanding in the burgeoning international business development hub. With recent plans announced to bring steel-making back to Teesside, strong market projections for steel doorsets, and the emergence of green tech to further reduce the carbon footprint of manufacturing, the future for this steel-based manufacturer looks promising.
