LPS 1175 Security Doorsets for Synagogues and Faith Schools

When several Jewish community buildings, including synagogues and faith schools, required enhanced physical security, Metador was approached to provide a durable, tested and sympathetic doorset solution. The brief was not simply to strengthen entrances, but to do so in a way that supported everyday access, respected the character of each building and responded carefully to the operational needs of the communities using them.

Project Background

The project covered many sites across the UK, where existing entrance arrangements were reviewed and, where required, replaced with high-security doorset systems. In some locations, this included replacing aluminium doors and glazed side panels with certified LPS 1175 security doorsets and solid side panels, improving resilience while maintaining a considered appearance

Client Requirement

The client required a doorset package that could provide a certified level of resistance while remaining suitable for live community environments, including faith schools and synagogues. The entrances needed to be dependable, secure and straightforward for authorised users, whilst in keeping with each building’s individual aestheticsSpecialist door hardware selection was critical, as the system also needed to support the community’s access requirements across different days and usage patterns, including Sabbath observance, where electrical operation may be restricted.

Metador’s Approach

As with any project, Metador worked from the client’s specific requirements. This included reviewing the existing access and egress arrangements, understanding how the doors would be used, and coordinating with key stakeholders to ensure the proposed LPS 1175 security doorsets were appropriate for the sites.

The Solution

Metador developed a specialist security door specification certified to the LPS 1175 scheme which incorporated the Trent from Surelock McGill in conjunction with the Slimline locking solution, allowing administrators to switch between electronic access control, mechanical code access and free access. This solution accommodates different requirements at different times, including Sabbath rules where non-electrical modes of entry may be required.

By replacing lighter entrance elements with a tested, integrated steel doorset, panel and hardware arrangement, the project helped the client improve protection at key access points while respecting each building’s role as a place of worship, learning and community life. The result was a secure, practical solution that supported controlled-entry systems without creating unnecessary barriers for the people using the buildings every day.
