The Brooke House redevelopment for L&Q and Women’s Pioneer Housing is a new 15-storey complex of 102 safe, modern and affordable apartments exclusively for single women, located in Acton, West London.

Delivered by HG Construction, the redevelopment will provide accommodation for essential workers in the local community, including teachers, NHS workers, and transport staff, helping key workers access homes in the local borough. It will also help residents facing inequality and economic disadvantage.

The Challenge

Reliable, secure access is a paramount consideration for residents in a busy space with over a hundred individual apartments.

The complex needed secure access to an on-site cycle store and bin store, as well as internal access to the roof and plant room, and to a private residents’ terrace on the 11^th floor.

The brief required single- and double-leaf steel hinged doorsets providing certified security performance, DDA-compliant thresholds, reliable multi-point locking configurations, high-security louvres and motorised locking with specific access control for different building users.

Metador’s Solution

Metador created a tailored doorset package for the client, including doors from the Xtreme range, plus additional doors from the Safeguard range.

Glazed Steel Entrance Door

The unique main entrance Xtreme 2 door features a large vision panel made from 34mm glass, set within a heavy-duty galvanised steel door leaf and frame. It also includes glazed side and over panels and is certified to the LPS 1175 B3 (SR2) security standard.

This visibility lets visitors see the entrance foyer mural, celebrating women from the past, present and future. At the forefront of the colourful artwork is Emma Brooke, after whom the building is named.

Louvred Steel Perimeter Doors

Additionally, Metador’s heavy-duty steel louvred doorsets met the building’s ventilation and security requirements for the cycle and refuse stores.

Metador supplied Women’s Pioneer Housing, who manage the properties, with reliable security protection across many critical public and non-public areas of the development, which opened in March 2026.

Bow Green is a major residential-led development on Bow Common Lane in London E3, delivered by Berkeley Group’s St William brand. Set within a prominent East London regeneration area, the scheme brings together new homes, landscaped public space, and resident amenities in a well-connected Zone 2 location between the City, Canary Wharf, and Stratford.

The Challenge

Large residential developments place heavy demands on internal and back-of-house access points. Doorsets must perform reliably in everyday use while also meeting stringent life-safety requirements, supporting secure access, and integrating with the building’s architectural and operational needs.

At Bow Green, the brief called for a coordinated package of single, double and leaf-and-a-half doorsets across a range of structural openings, each tailored to location-specific performance and access needs. Requirements included tested fire performance, DDA-compliant thresholds, robust locking configurations, stainless steel hardware, fire signage, kickplates, closers and, in selected locations, louvres, motorised locking, concealed door loops, tower bolts, multi-point locking and PAS 24 security upgrades.

Metador supplied a tailored package of Fireshield and Safeguard steel doorsets, specified to suit the project’s different performance zones and access-control requirements. 2 Trafalgar Way is a landmark mixed-use development in Tower Hamlets, London, located on the edge of Canary Wharf. Developed for Urbanest, the scheme brings together purpose-built student accommodation, residential apartments and commercial space within a highly sustainable, high-rise environment. The project has been widely recognised as one of Europe’s largest Passivhaus student accommodation schemes.

The Challenge

Delivering a development of this scale required every building component to support the project’s wider performance ambitions. Alongside stringent Passivhaus requirements, the site demanded dependable security, fire performance and durability across both internal and external applications. To meet the client’s security requirements, the doorset was manufactured with heavy-duty 1.5mm galvanised steel door leaves, a heavy-duty 2mm galvanised steel frame and a large, high-security vision panel incorporated into the upper section of the door. The doorset was specified to PAS 24, the UK-recognised standard for enhanced security performance in residential applications, designed to resist opportunistic burglary attempts.

For added assurance, Metador’s security-rated steel doorsets are accredited by Secured by Design, the official police security initiative that promotes products tested to reduce crime and improve security.

Bespoke Design to Complement the Property

While security was a key project requirement, aesthetics were also important. To complement the traditional style of the property, the doorset was enhanced with a Victorian-inspired decorative groove pattern, creating a distinctive and refined residential appearance.

Powder-coated in-house to RAL 7032 Pebble Grey, the doorset perfectly matched the recently installed windows, whilst delivering a high-quality, durable finish suitable for external use.
